How are dental implants put in?

Our dentists will inspect the condition of your teeth, gums and jaws to determine if you are a suitable candidate for implants and use x-rays to plan the precise location of the implants in your jaws. We will then draw up your personalised treatment plan to give you all the details you need to know about the treatment. The dental implant procedure itself involves at least 2 or more visits to our dental clinic.
The Implants themselves are small titanium posts that are surgically placed in the jawbone where teeth are missing. Then, over time, the jawbone actually attaches itself to the implant, providing stability. This process can take between three to six months.
While the jawbone is fusing with the implant, you will be fitted with (where appropriate) temporary dentures or with temporary crowns /natural-looking provisional teeth. This is so you can function as normally as possible.
After the implant has had enough time to fuse with your jaw, we can fit your custom-made crown, bridge or arch denture. Uncommon but sometimes additional steps may be needed for more complex treatments, such as those involving bone grafting.

Dental implant risks and recovery

Although it can take up to 6 months for your jaw to fully heal around the implant, most people can return to normal activities within a couple of days of the procedure. It's normal to experience some discomfort or pain, swelling, bruising and minor bleeding after treatment. These symptoms are temporary and can be managed with medication. Our dentists take every precaution to prevent infection during oral surgery, but we'll still make sure you understand the possible risks. These can include infection around the implant site, damage to nerves or blood vessels or sinus problems for upper jaw implants.

Our implants are made from strong titanium, a biocompatible metal that fuses successfully with the jaw bone. Implants are covered by a porcelain dental crown that looks, feels and functions similar to natural tooth enamel.

Some common benefits of having dental implants are?

Dental implants are a large investment, though they have a lot of advantages over other tooth replacement options. Here are some common reasons why patients choose dental implants at Montmorency Dental Group.
  • Are very aesthetically pleasing
  • Look, feel & function like a natural tooth
  • Have the ability to place crown, bridges & fixed dentures onto the implants

Dental Implants look and feel more natural

Unlike dental bridges or dentures that rely on the neighbouring teeth for support, dental implants are surgically placed in the jaw bone. Here, there essentially replacing the root of the missing tooth, holding the replacement tooth/crown, bridge or arch denture in place with greater stability.

Dental implants are long lasting

Dental implants cost more than other tooth replacement options to start with, but records show they last much longer, making it a more cost-effective treatment option in the long term. If you follow good oral hygiene and keep your teeth and gums healthy, your dental implants will last for many many years.

Dental Implants tend to look and feel more natural

Dental Implants function just like natural teeth, implants visually appealing almost identical to your natural. Our dentists can design your prosthetic tooth to closely match the size, shape and colour of your natural teeth, achieving maximum results for that perfect smile.

Improved biting pressure

Dental implants restore the amount of biting pressure that can be withstood to nearly the same level of healthy natural teeth.

Comfort

Dental implants eliminate the usual problems associated with dentures that can slip and slide around usually due from lack of bone which can cause sores, poor function and clicking sounds. Dental implants replace teeth and are anchored securely to the implants in the jawbone creating minimal to no discomfort once secured.
