How will I know if composite bonding is right for me?

It will depend on the size of the tooth area that needs to be fixed or restored. Composite bonding is mostly suitable for small to medium sized tooth restorations. So if the surface size is greater than 40% of the tooth and biting area, then a porcelain crown inlay or onlay is recommended instead.

Why do we use composite resin here at Montmorency Dental Group

At our practice, we use composite resin as a cosmetic alternative to amalgam fillings such as mercury and silver because:
  • The filling material is shade matched to your natural Tooth-colour, so it looks and feels aesthetically appealing
  • Highly Durable and can be bonded to the tooth structure, providing support and strength

How will the dentist apply the composite resin?

The application of composite resin is used to repair a decayed or broken tooth. To do this we first:
  • Remove any decay or fractured surfaces from the tooth
  • Roughen the surface of your tooth to make it easier for the bond & composite resin to adhere to
  • Paint onto the tooth surface the bonding agent
  • Apply the composite resin compacting the resin into the tooth to form a strong tooth structure
  • Use a high frequency light to harden the composite resin
  • Polish the composite restoration to looks & function like a natural tooth

What is composite bonding?

If you have teeth that are misshaped or that you are unhappy with, your dentist may be able to repair them with a “white filling” made from the latest, tooth-coloured composite resin.

Because composite resin is a close match to your tooth’s natural colour, many dentists like using it to fix teeth (especially in and around your “smile line”) that are:
  • Chipped or broken
  • Uneven
  • Discoloured
  • Look too spacey
  • Wish to appear longer
